The site offers functionality from two angles: The first is for the birder. The site provides a wealth of information about places they would like to find and watch birds. Some of the information may be relevant to the "back yard birder" while other information for the birder who will travel on birding trips. For this user, the site provides information on the countries or regions the individual would travel to as well as specific resources in that area with regards to places to stay, guides, tour operators or tours, local books and magazines and local clubs or organisations. The second is for the owner of accommodation, for guides or tour operators or clubs and organisations who provide services catering to birders. These users can advertise their product on the site for a small fee. Because the site is exclusive they wont find their listing on the site lost in a list or on pages of adverts. The site will only allow a certain number of advertisers for any category (hotels / bed and breakfasts / lodges / guides / tour operators / clubs) for each region. THE COMPANY The company is based in Tucson in Arizona and was started in July 2005. The company is held between parties in the USA, UK and South Africa. The company was started because a need was identified by the founders, who being birders themselves, realised that there was a lack of information for a birder when they travelled. There are numerous travel and accommodation sites for all countries but nothing really catering on a mass global scale for resources with a birding focus.
